Before you enroll in the dog grooming course:

How is the COVID-19 outbreak going to affect my course?

Since the dog grooming class is done entirely online and from your own home, there’s no reason to hesitate about starting your studies during the COVID-19 outbreak.  You can still enroll online at any time and get certified as a dog groomer.

While you will need access to several types of dogs to complete your studies, the WHO has determined that dogs cannot carry the COVID-19 virus. Therefore, it should still be safe to groom different dogs for your assignments.

When you enroll with QC, your course materials are shipped to your home.  There may be some shipping delays as the situation evolves, but rest assured that all your books, videos, course guides, and assignments are also available on the online student center!

Is it possible to learn dog grooming online?

Absolutely! As a QC grooming student, you’ll receive the tools you need to learn the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of a dog groomer. Through hands-on assignments and practicum units, you’ll get to develop your skills in real-life scenarios. Learn more about QC’s online learning system.

As a student of QC’s Dog Grooming School, you’ll enjoy the flexibility of online dog grooming classes because they’ll fit into your own schedule and lifestyle. Remember – just because you’re learning from home doesn’t mean you’re learning alone! You’ll work with a personal dog grooming tutor who will guide you through the course and review all your work, so you’ll receive the same feedback as you would in a classroom-based dog grooming school.

QC’s Student Support Specialists are also available to answer your questions before, during, and after your online dog grooming course! Contact QC Pet Studies by phone, email, or Live Chat.

Do I need prior training or experience as a dog groomer before taking this course?

No, you do not need any previous experience in the dog grooming industry to succeed in the QC Pet Studies courses. The online dog grooming course is comprehensive and will teach you all the fundamentals of dog grooming before moving on to more advanced techniques. To learn more, visit the dog grooming course overview page.

Are there any prerequisites to enroll in QC's Dog Grooming Course?

To enroll in any QC Pet Studies course, you must be at least 18 years of age, and a high school education is strongly recommended. Students under the age of 18 may enroll in QC Pet Studies if they provide a parental consent form. If you are under 18 years old and want to enroll in a dog grooming course, please contact QC for more information.

Do I need a state or provincial dog grooming license to work in the industry?

Dog Grooming is an unregulated field in most states and provinces. You should always double-check local regulations, but odds are you do not need any kind of dog groomer license or specific education (including a minimum number of training hours) in order to become a dog groomer.

There are a number of dog grooming associations that you can usually join by paying an annual membership fee. In most cases, these associations also have their own certification/qualification exams or requirements. QC’s online dog grooming course was written to meet the requirements of the National Dog Groomers Association of America. Completing the online dog grooming course will not only train you to become a successful professional dog groomer but will also prepare you to take the NDGAA Certification Exam, should you choose to take it.

Are there payment plans available for the Dog Grooming Course?

Yes! QC Pet Studies offers the most flexible payment options available at an online dog grooming school. You can choose from the following payment plans for your dog groomer training:

  • Full tuition payment upfront (Get a large discount on your tuition!)
  • Accelerated payments: four equal monthly payments (Get a small tuition discount on most courses)
  • Low monthly installment payments that fit your budget.

If you choose to pay your tuition on an installment plan you’ll have the option to choose the date your payments start, adding another level of convenience unique to QC!  Visit the Tuition Page for more information on available payment plans, or contact us to speak with a specialist who will be happy to help you find a payment plan that’s right for you!

Does the tuition cover all the costs of the dog grooming course?

Your dog grooming tuition covers course books, instructional videos, course guides, instructional handouts, access to your Online Student Center and advice/feedback from your personal tutor. For the Dog Grooming course, you’ll also receive many of the items you’ll need to complete your dog grooming assignments and start your career as a professional dog groomer. These items include WAHL clippers and guides, professional-grade grooming shears, and a dog groomer starter kit containing brushes, combs, nail clippers and more.  You can see a full list of course materials and equipment provided on the Dog Grooming Course Overview page.

Will I need to purchase anything else to complete the dog groomer course?

Yes. You will need some additional tools and products to complete your practical assignments, all of which will be valuable investments for your career. Find a list of all the items you need in the Getting Started Guide.

Are there any technology requirements to complete my dog groomer training online?

To complete the dog groomer course, you must have access to the following:

  • A desktop computer, laptop or tablet
  • A smart phone and/or camera with photograph and video capability
  • Up-to-date Internet browser
  • Up-to-date Adobe Reader program

Is this course appropriate for someone who wants to explore the grooming industry, but isn’t necessarily interested in a new career?

Absolutely. Perhaps you’d like to learn how to groom your own dogs or your friends’ dogs, or maybe you’re just looking to expand your knowledge. Whatever your reason, your dog groomer training will be very useful to you even if you do not wish to work in the grooming industry.

Can I have my course materials delivered to a PO box address?

QC’s couriers unfortunately do not ship to PO box addresses at this time. When enrolling, please provide us with a civic address.

During your dog groomer training:

How long will it take to complete my online dog grooming class?

With QC’s online courses, you work at your own pace. You decide how much time per week you want to spend developing your grooming skills. QC’s flexible dog groomer training has no deadlines for completing course assignments. Typically, students who work on their grooming assignments for a short period each week will complete their online course within six months to a year.

Keep in mind that you have a full two years to complete your dog grooming course, so you can schedule your groomer training around your lifestyle!

What if I decide the grooming course is not right for me?

No problem! QC’s 21-Day Guarantee is there to protect you. After you enroll you’ll have a full 21 days (that’s 3 weeks!) to browse the course and decide if it’s the right fit. If within that time, you choose not to take the course, just call the school: you’ll then return your course materials to us, unused, for a full refund.

Note: Return shipping fees are not covered by the school. Also, all materials must be returned unused and in their original condition. Any material that has been used, damaged, or opened cannot be refunded. For example, if the clippers/comb attachments have been opened (seal broken), the value of these tools ($200 USD) will not be refunded (and you won’t have to return them with the rest of the course materials). If you are paying your tuition on an installment plan, you will be responsible for paying the balance for these tools. So just be sure you’re happy with the course before you start submitting assignments and using your tools!

How exactly do the hands-on grooming assignments and practicum dog grooming units work?

You will complete the practical grooming assignments and practicum units by working with real dogs. Your course materials contain guidelines for finding dogs to work with. In order to get the most out of your dog groomer education, you are encouraged to work on as many different dogs as you can find!

To groom these dogs, you will need to set up an at-home grooming workspace. Your course will guide you through setting up your workspace, and your tutor will advise you on your workspace before you start grooming dogs, to make sure the space is safe and practical for both you and your furry clients!

What do I do if I get stuck on a dog grooming assignment?

You may be learning from home but you are in no way alone! You can contact your Student Support Team by phone, email or Live Chat whenever you need to. The team will always be happy to answer your dog grooming questions, and if they don’t have an answer for you, they’ll get one from your tutor! You can also get help and advice from your peers on the QC student forum, or from the QC Dog Grooming community on Facebook. Learn more about QC’s student support services.

I’m not interested in starting a dog grooming business. Do I still have to complete the business training?

No. The business unit is optional for Dog Grooming students. You may choose whether or not you’d like to complete this component of the course.

After graduation:

Do I need any other training or licensing to become a professional dog groomer?

There are generally no licensing requirements to be a professional dog groomer, although you should always check the laws in your area. You may wish to complete your region’s dog grooming certification exam, but this is not mandatory in order to work in the industry. QC Pet Studies’ Online Dog Grooming course will help prepare you for many dog grooming certification exams.

Will I be able to receive discounts toward dog grooming tools and equipment as a student or graduate?

Yes! QC Pet Studies students and graduates are eligible to receive discounts from a variety of pet retailers. Find a full list of preferred dog grooming suppliers here.

How will QC help me start my dog grooming career once I’ve finished the groomer course?

QC Pet Studies hosts a variety of free career resources for students and graduates in the Online Student Center. Dog Grooming students also receive free business training that prepares you to run your own dog grooming business.

Even long after you have completed your course, you’re always welcome to reach out to QC’s support team who will be happy to offer you continued support and guidance throughout your dog grooming career.

How much can you earn as a professional dog groomer?

A professional dog groomer’s salary varies depending on the level of experience, skill, location, and the number of dogs groomed per day. A dog groomer can expect to earn between $25,000 and $45,000 (USD) per year.

If you decide to work in a dog grooming salon, you’ll have a regular salary. If you choose a freelance dog grooming career, your salary will be less steady but you’ll be able to set your own rates and hours. A dog groomer working at a large-scale pet retailer will typically make a stable hourly wage, usually with the potential for commissions and tips.
